The paper examines certain methods for studying the
peculiarities of the development of Belarusian speech in bilingual children
under conditions of Russian-Belarusian bilingualism. It is emphasized that
research on the speech development of bilingual children in the Belarusian
language is conducted in two directions: studying the relationship between
learning a second (Belarusian) language and the child’s cognitive
development, and studying the peculiarities of the Belarusian speech itself in
various aspects (phonetic, lexical-semantic, grammatical). An overview of
well-known methods aimed at assessing the cognitive abilities and language
skills of bilingual children is provided.
